In the winter, we dream of popsicle summers and colorful kaftans. Come summer, we plan our winter wardrobes. A mesmerizing coat we find in a magazine jump-starts random thoughts of a chocolat-chaud-full winter. Even the magazines we read are ahead of us by a month. We're surrounded by pre-fall collections hitting boutiques starting on a scorching day in July. Why can't we simply live the moment? Leave the summer for the summer, and winter for the winter? Easier said than done (unless you have super resistance powers of which I would like some thank you very much). Its too hard to resist all these beautiful winter pieces. But the thought of even trying on winter clothes during midsummer is horrific. Let's enjoy cool popsicles in the heat for now and worry about winter when it comes - if it ever does decently lol!

I wrote this post after reading Garrance Dore's "Some like it hot" post. Totally made me laugh out loud! So true, I've always wondered why we were always so ahead of ourselves.

So if there is one thing you learned today, let it be this piece of advice: pace and immerse yourself in the moment.

A whole collection paying hommage to the Middle East? Why thank you Riccardo Tisci, we're so flattered ;p

Models dressed like Beduin Queens in black & white chiffon robes paraded down the runway to nomadic karkabou tunes. Inspiration came from North African Queens as well as the Middle East. Models wore "Arabic headgear", hoods, and snoods, and were jeweled in gilded armors, gold cuffs, and metal rings. The overall beauty look consisted of bare faces and slick jet-black hair semi-covered in chiffon veils.

The monochrome collection was accentuated with two contrasting silhouettes: sensually harem and sharply tailored. Flesh-colored crepe gowns stood out quite dramatically.

Im in awe: couture-struck.

What I love about fashion the most is seeing how it is interpreted in our daily lives. While it is so easy to grab the latest issue of Vogue and treat our eyes with the fabulous editorials, nothing beats the feeling of looking at fashion right in front of your eyes worn by "mere mortals". While the runways send down models wearing a look with specific hair, makeup, and accessories, the way it is taken from runway to realway is what makes it even more interesting.

Specifically, I adore looking at pictures of Parisian streetstyle.Stalking photos on Garrance Dore is a guilty pleasure. Their "je ne sais quoi" layering, killer heels on cobbled stones, and effortless hair is what makes me truely believe that Paris is the fashion capital of the world. Every Parisian wears an item differently, not taking into consideration what any of the current trends are. They simply throw things on and voila, they are styled to kill!

What inspired this post is a small note left after a post of one of my favorite streetstyle blogger, "Style and the City". Kamel Lahmadi, the guy behind the lens and amazing style captures, attempts to send out a message through his blog. His dream is to "humanize" fashion by showing the world that the real world is also beautiful and that "real" people have what it takes to be stylish.

Love the idea. I hope streetstyle gets more press and attention and that we all begin to appreciate what is around us rather than only what we see in magazines.

Ah Karl. You never fail to impress us with your show sets. From carousels in Paris to the Great Wall of China, nothing is impossible. But his choice this time was surely a charming one. A very magical spectacle indeed.

The quirky sunglasses a la Venetian masks are so chic lol!

“Venice has a genuine dark and mysterious side to it that fascinated me. I really like the Italian spirit and the Venetian lifestyle,” said Lagerfeld, sporting a royal blue jacket, white shirt and skinny black pants. “And let’s not forget that Coco Chanel came back to Venice for 10 years.”

On Thursday night, Lagerfeld took over the beach of the recently renovated Excelsior Hotel on the Lido, a stretch of sand that conjures images of Luchino Visconti’s “Death in Venice” and early-1900s European nobility idly basking in the sun. The invitation — a painterly image of Coco Chanel sitting on the Lido beach — perfectly depicted the poetic setting.

Models coiffed in Thirties bobs strolled down the boardwalk as guests sat on wooden deck chairs. First out was a group of pirate-esque girls clad in wide-brimmed hats and black capes, followed by former supermodel Tatjana Patitz leading a gaggle of fresh-faced beauties in dapper cream sailor dresses with black stripes. Venetian references were handled subtly, including black sunglasses reminiscent of Venetian masks, while gold brocade and lamé lace adorning dresses recalled Byzantine details. And classic Chanel bouclé suits with fringed edges came in a Titian-inspired red. The lion, Venice’s emblem and Coco Chanel’s birth sign, appeared as a print on flowy sepia-toned or black-and-white chiffon dresses."

While im getting tired of hearing the word "recession" everywhere, I read an interesting article in the New York Times (fashion section) talking about designers who opted for cheap materials such as Burlap (potato sacks anyone?) to create bags, dresses, and shoes. And while some may think that since it is a recession, and the designers are using cheaper materials, that prices will be at a lower point? Well it is far from that! Im all for splurging on quality, but a burlap miumiu dress? Come on!

No words will ever do this show any justice. For those of you in Bahrain, seriously do not miss The Sound of Music puppet show at the cultural hall this weekend! The tickets sold out real fast, but to those of you who didnt get your hands on tickets there will be an extra show on Saturday due to high demands!

I think everyone can say that The Sound of Music was a big part of their childhood. It is one of my all time favorite movies; from every song to every scene, I can recite it all lol! That is why I was ecstatic to hear that the puppet show was coming to Bahrain all the way from Austria!

It was an amaaazing experience re-living all the scenes and songs. The puppet show did not seem like a puppet show - it was like the movie was playing live right infront of us. It was so real; from the incredible set, set changes, effects, and puppet movements, to the songs, it was perfect.

We got to sing and hum our all time favorite tunes, from raindrops on roses to Doh a deer; the show took us right back to our childhood, back another world I must say.

To reliving childhood memories over and over again xx

..or is nap (net a porter) selling out like crazy? I mean everything used to sell out, but to have to decide on a piece within 3 minutes or its too late? Make that 2 minutes. Lol how frantic!

It takes two words, typed in bold and deep red, to make me really really annoyed - SOLD OUT. Ah the feeling of rejection. The feeling of wanting something but not being able to reach it. I'd then begin a worldwide search for that highly coveted item, not because I want it that much, but because I couldn't have it while others, who we may conclude are early birds, or happen to have the time difference to their advantage, can just click and buy, without any stress or 3 minute deadlines.

I think I might cross over to the dark (or is it bright?) side and join all the early birds out there. Only on Monday's and Wednesday's though ;p

For FW 09/10, designers made quite the era jump from futuristic silhouettes dominating these past seasons to the Baroque era this season! Not only is there juxtaposition from one season to the next (or even the same season! The 80's trend?), but this rich and opulent trend also contradicts the current economic situation which is no where near lavish opulence.

I don't know how much of this trend we will incorporate into our wardrobes, we will just have to wait and see! Never say never?

Cigarette skinnies, super light wash, slightly worn out. This post is a dedication to my sis ;p she inspired me to study whether or not this might be an emerging trend (actually I was browsing online for inspiration of the wearablity factor of these jeans.) You see, two summers ago, I let go of blue jeans. A year later, I slowly started to introduce jeans back into my daily intake (in small, dark dosages, that is.) & now, I find myself quite confused - not knowing whether I should get a pair of love worn light jeans a la 80's.

As I was google-readering away, I found two photos of the same girl wearing the same jeans on different blogs, I think she's all the inspiration I need!

The question as to whether or not fashion is considered art has been debated for decades now. I have always believed in fashion as an art; like other arts, fashion is a media that translates an individual's expression to the world.

I will leave debating "fashion is art" in terms of the industry to be argued by experts. But as a fashion-enthusiast, I wince at the mere mention of the "superficiality" of the industry. What makes it superficial? Well, obsessing about it one might say? But would you label someone working in the fashion industry as superficial? Or fashion followers? I am really keen to know.

To me, fashion is a way of express oneself. It is a "non-verbal cue" of telling people who you are, kind of. Most importantly though, it is seriously fun. I really enjoy looking at people who are aesthetically fashionable. They dress for themselves, and dress up not to impress others but because they enjoy doing so. Its saddens me to hear many people who may or may not have their reasons and arguments, simply label fashionable people as "superficial". Fashion is supposed to be fun! Boo the party poopers away lol.

The latest episode of Ugly Betty (which was hilarious) inspired my post. In defending itself, Mode Magazine's representative argued that Mode cannot be exempt from help because it is "merely a fashion magazine", but should be regarded as an important part of New York's economy.

Have you ever sat down and thought of all your goals in life? To those of you who have, how many of your goals are in any way related to anything materialistic?

A very interesting notion made by Paulo Coelho is that although everyone has dreams, he argues that these dreams have been manipulated in some form. Coelho believes that we live in a materialistic world, and that the true values of which the majority of people aim to pursue are fame, wealth, and power. We have been manipulated by such a materialistic world to replace our simpler and more valuable dreams to aim for what culture today defines as success.

In his latest book, The Winner Stands Alone, Coelho delivers the theme that in today's world, being a "winner" is directly tied to being rich and famous. But what about real happiness? What about self-satisfaction with disregard to society?

An intriguingly true notion also discussed in this book is the fact that possession is addictive. Once you think you attained a goal, "desire creeps right back in". In other words, once you get what you want, you are never satisfied. You go back and crave more and more.

But a question we should ask ourselves: who manipulates us? Who are the driving forces behind such fake values that we are all trapped in?

The book The Winner Stands Alone discusses this trap.

To one of Arab's greatest legends, Um Kalthum..

A few days ago, I decided to hit the shops for a round of therapy. I skipped about Moda Mall only to find an amazing display in the center with a huge silhouette of Um Kalthum and decided to discover. I was inspired. The display, the items on display, and everything else in between was breathtaking. (Psst: they say the planner behind this exhibition did one of Obama's parties on inauguration day, wowza!)

The exhibition was divided into different halls over two floors. The round display hall displayed paintings and portraits of Um K alongside a few of her belongings such as her microphone, her Dior shades, and her infamous "mandeel". The paintings were collected from individual artists, as were her belongings from museums in France and Egypt.

The stairs that lead to the second floor were adorned with Arabic calligraphy.

The exhibition had a guest book. Out of curiosity I flipped through only to find pages and pages of farewell/thank you notes dedicated to the legend. I was surprised that people literally each wrote her a good page or two, wow!

Also displayed were Um Kalthum's radios, dresses, her lizard Gucci shoes and bag, old photos documenting her life, videos and songs playing in the background; all arranged in the most spectacular manner.

Also exhibited was art work by a myriad of artists that spanned everything from fashion to pop art all dedicated to Um Kalthum; beautiful creations inspired by such a beautiful icon.

Make sure to pass by whenever you hit the shops at Moda Mall. The exhibition will be on until March. Enjoy!!

In a country where 465 million citizens live off 1.25$ a day, here goes a debate as to whether or not Vogue India was being sensitive enough about living conditions of millions of Indians. The 16-page photo shoot above triggered the debate between Vogue India's editor and the Indian citizens. Vogue India defends its work by saying it reflects "the power of fashion", and that "fashion is no longer a rich man's privilege. Anyone can carry it and make it look beautiful." Arguments against the photo shoot include descriptions of it -in local newspapers-as being distasteful, tacky, and vulgar.

Featuring a toothless old man carrying a Burberry umbrella, a child from a poor family wearing a Fendi bib, do you think Vogue India took it too far? Or does their photo shoot really send a strong positive message across? I seriously doubt the latter. Tres intriguing nonetheless.

Is the fashion magazine industry being swallowed by digital media? With plentiful fashion blogs out there, who keep fashion fanatic readers updated on a daily basis (or hourly lol), are magazines losing their touch? By the time a magazine hits the shelves, is the content already old news? Well, not really news in the case of Vogue and co., but readers who buy magazines do so in anticipation of getting a glimpse of whats new for the month and season. However, with the ever so booming world of fashion blogs, will magazines be a thing of the past?

Personally, I noticed that in the last couple of months, I looked less forward to magazines than I used to. Once upon a time, I used to pass by to get magazines every Monday and Thursday, religiously!

The recession is not helping either. How many of you noticed the the December issue of Vogue does not live up to its regular standards? Many magazines were forced to cut down atleast 10% of their pages to keep up with current economic woos. So sad!

This smiley is the epitemy of adorableness. The cliche "smile, its contagious" is totally applicable with this smiley lol, it smiles at me, I smile at the world, which smiles back too! I have this exact pouty smiley on a t-shirt; the tee brings back the fondest memories. First, I ordered it whilst sipping a latte and giggling/not really whispering avec sis and friend in one of my last classes in senior year - it was one hilarious class I tell you ;p it is also reminiscent of the many walks we took in the park, the laughs and lattes we shared. This month's a high for all fashion devotees out there, with Bryant park sending models down their runways donning this season's fabulous pieces as I type. Its fashion week again! For those of you doing their homework, you must have already gone ga-ga over Marc, Marchesa, and everything nice ;p Im guilty myself for staying up on the night of Marc's show, waiting for photos as they were posted live from the runway; they totally gave me a high! (Uhh actually, I didnt really stay up solely for Marc's show, with my Ramadhan sleeping habits et al ;p but you know what I mean!)

Why everyone loves mornings! In the past couple of fabulous days, I have deciphered the hype about mornings with the help of bff my Alice who switched her maryjanes to ysl star flats for our lond walks in the park, endless talks, lattes in all sizes and forms, shopping for vintage postcards, et museum visits- standing outside, even before they open mind you! ;p
I have neverrrr spent funner and more productive mornings like these past few ones- a perfect way to start the day!

Being a night owl, I must admit I would never imagined saying that in these past few days, I wished the nigh was non existant. I wish it is always sunny outside, exactly like it is in the morning. Actually, I wouldnt mind if mornings were extended to half of the day! Our morning sessions wrap up with noting down our discussion's concluding notes, a warm hug, and the next meeting point. Dear Alice, thank you for changing me into a morning person, for being you, for all the memories, all the talks, and all the good times! Tu es one of a kind, too good to be true that I constantly have to pinch you just to make sure ;p

The rest of the day involves endless laughter, self-timer photos (pouting/peace sign-ing et al) red velvet cupcakes, movies, lots of walking, and spontaneous picnics.

Lots of precious memories made, all documented by photos and hopefully will forever be etched in mind to come back and reflect upin post summer. Sigh. What a fabulous summer! h*. can't wait for you to come and add to the fabulousnesss!! *heartss

so here i am drowned in bed, the most wonderful feeling ever. i was telling noona that i told them not to wake me up till september! haha ;p anyways i had to drop by and post an update..
so, i went to watch the mama mia musical with a friend she's such a sweetheart<3> i can't get the music out of my head and its been a couple of days already lol. "mamma mia, here i go again ;p"

and yeah one of those many days at laduree camilla belle was having tea in the table next to us, i kept staring wondering if it was her.. i was too shy to ask so i asked my friend to ask her lol and she was like yeah hehe then i waved hi ;p i snapped a picture of her when she went down to order some macaroons <3>

anyways here i am 5th avenue-ing
im in heaven plus a dream filled with chocolate eclairs and marshmallows ah. and the favorite of all bergdorf.

oh yeah and the most embarrassing moment: i was waiting for the elevator with my sister and she dared me to say "heyyyy" -which i always do- in a high pitched way as if i'm going to start singing~ when the elevator door opens. and i was like i could do that! haha! the whole time i was here the elevator always comes empty WHY NOW. lol so i was like "heeyyy" with a waving arm. and there they were a man and his wife staring like i was some kind of an idiot!

Dubai Infinity Holdings just announced that Karl will design 80 residential homes for them, including a limited-edition design (we're picturing leather glove wallpaper, but we'll see.)

But here's the best part: The homes will sit atop Isla Moda, one of the many man-made islands that make up The World, a cluster of islands in the Arabian Gulf meant to be a play land away from the play land from which anyone with about $15 - $50 million can purchase an island (we hear Jay-Z has one.)

a new twist..

to the classic scarf! we've tried everything, from tying it to the side from wearing it with a scarf ring, to turning it into a headband. here's a fabulous new way to wear it, as a fabric necklace!! After seeing her scarf at garance dore, we decided to play diy at home with a favorite scarf! tres simple yet so cute, you take the scarf and here's a step by step to what you do:

1. Place the scarf flat on the floor, and take two corners and fold them into the middle of the square.

2. fold the two sides in again and again until the scarf looks like one narrow folded piece.

3. create knots by placing your hand where you want the knot to form, make a loop, and simply pull in the longer side of the scarf in the loop and secure a knot. place your hand a few inches away from the first knot and form a second knot. Keep forming knots until there is only 2 strands on each side of the necklace scarf for you to be able to tie it around your neck.

4. look fabulous!!

so you know how when its summer et al, new trends come out to replace those we have exhausted ever from winter to spring. each summer brings with it new ways of dressing up, new ways to feel light and flowy and breezy. this summer, we are introduced to a familiar yet unfamiliar feeling:baggy flowy pants, harem pants - fit on the waist and ankles, and super loose in between. vogue describes this attempt as "the impatient instinct to overturn the overdone - the the domination of dresses, skinny pants, and leggings". like us, you might wince at first at the thought of even attempting to wear this cut. but now its all about pants that do not look tidy and pristine anymore! tres avant-garde.
